No deal Brexit: UK trade agreements with non-EU countries

The UK is currently scheduled to leave the EU at 11:00pm GMT (midnight CET) on 31st October 2019. There appears to have been very little progress since the original Brexit date of 29th March 2019, with neither side apparently willing or able to find a solution to the problems regarding the Irish border and the UK Parliament having rejected the proposed Withdrawal Agreement. It is fair to say that the complete lack of progress or willingness to even propose or discuss solutions to the Irish border problem is not an encouraging sign for any future discussions on that subject if the proposed Withdrawal Agreement had been or was, at a future date, accepted by the UK Parliament.

In a series of articles, we will be exploring what happens or is likely to happen in the event of a “No Deal Brexit”.

The UK Government has prepared a series of Guidance notes on a range of matters in order to assist UK and other businesses and individuals. The Guidance notes on UK trade agreements with non-EU countries in a no-deal Brexit sets out which new trade agreements will be in place if there is a no deal Brexit. It lists and provides links to the trade agreements that have been signed by the UK, the trade agreements that are still under discussion and the existing mutual recognition agreements. The full text of the Guidance notes can be found here - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-trade-agreements-with-non-eu-countries-in-a-no-deal-brexit

Whether you are a “Remainer” or “Brexiteer” or a UK citizen or a citizen of another part of the EU, it is unfortunate that the EU and UK negotiators have not moved beyond political grandstanding and found a way to conclude a deal, which enables both parties to move forward for the overall benefit of their citizens and businesses.
